A little over a year ago I was approached by Stephanie Corfee and asked if I was interested in contributing to her newest book. Of course I said YES! The book has finally made it to publishing and I got to experience my work in print for the first time! The book was released the day after my birthday and my contributor copy arrived in time for my birthday weekend, talk about a great gift! The book is a great book filled with ideas for painting with kids, my kids and I are excited to work through the projects together. Each project profiles professional artists as “artist inspiration” and then shows a kid friendly recreation. The book is a must have for art teachers and homeschoolers.
I’m grateful that our paths crossed and Stephanie contacted me with the opportunity to cross this milestone off my bucket list.
I know, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet! But it feels like a new year to me. I’m in the renew, rebirth zone. I read a blog post by a “mommy blogger” regarding the start of the new school year is the “Mom New Year.” I can totally relate to that. It’s the time mom gets her kids back on a schedule, plans meals, tackles organizing homework and new activity schedules and promises… this will be the year… I can certainly relate to the shift in priorities and renewed enthusiasm every fall.
I had a summer of introspect. I realized I am not where I want to be in life and instead of complaining about it, I can change it. I spent months doing inner work. Reading philosophies that speak to me. Meditating and reassessing my vision, goals & priorities and I’ve emerged with a new outlook. I have a new sense of direction & focus. So this is my new year, right now!
As I worked on finding myself, my creativity has taken a back seat. I’ve slowly been working through A Year of Painting, much slower than I wanted to! I just couldn’t force it. Now I’m itching to get back on track. My daughter and I had a weekend alone and decided to try out the free sample Life Book lesson Willowing is offering. I’m not sure if its share worthy LOL but we enjoyed working together. We even had to make an emergency trip to Michaels at 8pm before they closed to get some skin toned paint. She loved that! Jump in the car and zoom across town to get there before closing, hearing the closing in 15 minutes announcement and ending up with a $20 total for our $1 tube of paint. So many needs we found, including new earrings. That right there is good quality girl time :)
Just a quick update on the work I’ve completed during Alena Hennessey’s A Year of Painting online class.
Just listed new Valentine’s Day printable artwork and cards in my RubyMoonPrintables Etsy Shop! Don’t forget as a blog reader you get 50% off with BLOG50 coupon code! These prints are great for teacher gifts, last minute gifts and just decorating your house or office! I always print one to use in a frame on my mantle, I just change it out seasonally! The cards are great for giving to kids and anyone and you can print as many as you need! Images are linked to the shop.
In other news, I’m taking Alena Hennessey’s A Year of Painting class and loving it! Here is what I made for our first lesson. It was one of those pieces that was going nowhere fast but I kept going and came up with something I was reasonably happy with. Unconventional is my word of the year and this piece was to celebrate that word.
So this is my view today, we missed out on a white Christmas but we get a white New Year! The best part of snowy days is the bright white light coming in my studio window, makes for a great photography day. I’m catching up on a lot of administrative stuff, end of the year stuff and sitting at the computer all day. I’d rather be making something! Anyway, I added some bright, cheerful new originals to my RubyMoonDesigns shop. I’ve made colored ink blots! Right now just the original artwork is listed, prints will be coming. Here are a few examples, images are linked to the shop.
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged! Trust me, I’m keeping busy! I have a lot of new things in the works and I’m super excited to share with you. First off I have worked on a couple class projects. Here is my Gypsy Girl from Willowing’s Summer Gypsy class. She was a lot of fun to make and I got to try out some new techniques. Tam does a great job with her classes and makes it super easy!
Next I finished one of the 9+ Radiant Faces lessons. The series is officially over, but I’m late getting started :) I somehow decided to start with lesson 6 instead of going in order, that’s how I roll. Here is my Dreamer girl taught by Jamie Doughterty. It was my first time using colored pencils and I can’t say that I’m a fan of them. The class is great for forcing me out of my comfort zone and trying something new. I’m starting another class in January so I need to kick it into high gear and finish up this one!
Now for some more new stuff! I’ve recently opened a THIRD Etsy shop! It’s called RubyMoonPrintables and I’m offering artwork in an instant download format. That’s right, no shipping costs or wait time! As soon as an item is purchased you’ll download the JPEG and/or PDF file. You can print right at home or take have it printed at an office supply store. The files are 8×10 and also look great on an 8.5×11 paper. I started out with offering a bunch of Christmas designs in 8×10 prints and Christmas card designs. These are great for those unexpected moments when you need a hostess gift or teacher gift right on the spot. As the new year rolls in, I will be adding more quote art prints. Here are a few examples of what I have in store. Just for reading my blog I’m offering you a coupon code for 50% off! Just use Blog50 at checkout.
As a thank you for your support I’m offering a free Thank You card download. The image will open as a PDF in a new window for you to save to your computer or print. Prints on 8.5×11 paper. Personal Use only please.
