Week 4 of icad

June 30th, 2014 | Posted by RubyMoonArt in icad | mixed media | Uncategorized - (Comments Off on Week 4 of icad)

Another week in review. I’m half way through the challenge now and this is what I’ve discovered…

  • I’ve never been an “art journaler” by any regular means.  This challenge has turned into that of sorts, some days I’m inspired by what is going on in my life (day 27).
  • I’m feeling very free to try out skills I haven’t developed, trying new products, new subjects
  • My schedule doesn’t allow me to make a card EVERY day, but MOST days.   I allow myself to catch up when I have more time. I’m literally not losing any sleep over it.
  • I do admit that other projects have taken a back seat to this one. My “free” time is very limited and keeping up is a challenge.  I’m ok with it, it’s only temporary and I feel the process is important
  • I’m not good with prompts :)
  • Sharing is getting easier
  • I love all the support I see on facebook and IG of each other’s work.

Charity water Rainbow Mermaid finished mixed media piece

June 10th, 2014 | Posted by RubyMoonArt in mixed media - (Comments Off on Charity water Rainbow Mermaid finished mixed media piece)

On Mother’s Day, my 9 year old daughter and I worked on a mixed media class together.  We did this great charity water class which supports a great cause in exchange for this great tutorial for a Rainbow Mermaid.  I’ve finished my piece and my daughter has a little more detail work to do, but she won’t let me share because she doesn’t like how the eyes came out.  We are going to make more though, she says :)  I’ve had a great time working together on this with her! She is the real artist in the family, she’s such a natural!  It’s great to see her develop new skills and apply her own interpretation of them.  I can’t wait to make more art with her.  Here is my finished piece usuing 9×12 watercolor paper, water colors, water color pencils, colored pencils, acrylics, stencils, ink pens, spray inks.

Raspberry lime spray inks icad day 8

My day 8 icad is done!  I used lime green and red spray inks, I believe they were both Dylusions.  I did a partial mandala from the suggested theme and made it a lotus flower.

So I’ve been keeping up with the art part of the icad challenge, but the posting is the biggest challenge.  I will admit I took yesterday off to spend my free time with two crazy fun girls for a night out.  We went to the First Friday downtown art walk.  All the art galleries are open until 9 or 10 pm and have open houses, refreshments, music etc.  It was a good time and VERY nice to get out and about socially!  I was inspired by an artist (whose name I already forgot) that does huge 4×4 foot canvas faces and uses dimensional paints.  It was really hard not to touch :)  I’d really like to try that concept on a much smaller scale though and faces intimidate me too.   So I caught up and did two icad pieces today.

icad 2 and 3

June 3rd, 2014 | Posted by RubyMoonArt in icad | mixed media - (Comments Off on icad 2 and 3)

Here are my days 2 and 3 for the index card a day(icad) .  I ran out of time to photo and post yesterday, but at least I did the creating!

Day 2 was inspired by a mantra I’m focusing on right now, really focusing… You know when something comes up unplanned, not in the perceived path, but feels like it’s there for a reason.  A reason you might not agree with, or see the value in at the present moment… sigh.

Day 3

Truth be told, I was doodling at work in my notebook with a green office felt tip.  I decided this technically is art, so use it!  I’ve collaged it to an inked index card for day 3.

I experimented with Prima’s Color Bloom spray on these notebook doodles. The spray is not really cut out for that application, but I went with it LOL.  I need to do some more experimenting and check out some inspiration.

icad challenge day 1

June 1st, 2014 | Posted by RubyMoonArt in Uncategorized - (2 Comments)

Last year I followed the icad (index card a day) challenge around the social media world and thought why am I not doing this?!?  This is the year, no excuses.  Yes I am crunched for time, yes I am spread too thin, yes I have a lot of other responsibilities that don’t get the attention they deserve… but basically it comes down to Make Time for what you LOVE.  I may not make one everyday for the 61 days, but I will try.  I’m aiming for complete, not perfect :)  This is such a great idea, Tammy the host, has tons of prompts and inspiration to keep us going.  The canvas is so small, it’s easy to squeeze in that amount of art in one day.  I even took this picture when it was still wet :)

With that, here is day 1
