I spent today getting some new items added to my SewRubyMoon shop on Etsy.  A few Halloween items! It’s hard to believe it’s right around the corner.  It’s my favorite holiday and I love the Goth look of these textured pieces.

Completed Art!

I finally completed a piece that I have been working on for months!  I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with it.  It’s an odd size for me 12×36.  I needed a piece that shape in my living room on a bare spot on the wall.  I seem to have A LOT of stuff on my walls but above my TV was bare and I couldn’t find anything the right proportions.  I found this canvas an hung it up there blank and still in the package and decided it was the right size.  So then it set for a long time while I figured out what to do with it…. theme, colors, texture… blah nothing.  Finally, I went shopping for the color palette.  Then I started on a background.  Once a layer needed to dry I would walk away and it would take weeks for me to return.  Then another layer, and more sitting.  It was such a challenge to push through this piece.  Finally the background was done.  Then I needed a subject.  Words/Phrase? Motif?  Accent? So it sat some more.  I bought some of Christy Thomlinson’s stencils and decided to add those to my background.  I used modeling paste mixed with inks to give it more texture.  I layered two of the stencils.  Finally I stepped back and thought “maybe this is working”.  I propped the piece up in my studio and stared at it a few days as I passed by and then the decision was made.  It’s done!  Very abstract, it’s all about the colors and textures.  Here it is up close and hanging on my wall.

I’d love to hear if anyone else struggles like this at times, maybe it’s just me :)
